A story about marble

Last month we travelled to Turkey to track the journey that marble makes, from quarry to final product.

It all starts at the marble quarry where the natural stone is extracted from the earth. We visited a quarry high up in the mountains in the south of Turkey where they extract the famous Tundra Grey.

Drills and diamond chain saws are used to cut the marble into big blocks. The average dimension of a block is about 200x300x200cm, and the weights around 24-27 tons!

Importers from all over the world travel to the quarry to select blocks based on their colour and pattern.

Marble is a natural material, so like wood, there is a wide variety in the colour and pattern, and every block has it’s own character.

Once the blocks are sold they are transported all over the world to be further processed into slabs, tiles and other objects.

bricpro has an extensive network of suppliers in Turkey, China, Portugal and Italy that both supply marble slabs for furniture, but also work with robots cutters to make 3D interior objects, such as candle holders and lamps.
